On April 9, the Discovery Channel interviewed chemist Nate Lewis for an upcoming documentary on energy alternatives.

 

An April 9 article on ScienceMode.com looked at research by bioengineer Erik Winfree into the control of nucleation processes using DNA origami seeds.

Several media outlets reported on simulations of what would happen if a 9.0 quake hit the Pacific Northwest. The work was done by Earthquake Engineering Research Laboratory seismologist Thomas Heaton and colleagues, and was covered by MSNBC.com's Cosmic Log, King 5 News, and ScienceBlog, among others.

On April 9, The Register covered a $6 million DARPA grant awarded to applied physicist Ali Hajimiri for research into "self healing" integrated circuits. A similar story was posted on the Rapid Electronics website.

On April 8, National Geographic TV interviewed planetary astronomer Mike Brown and planetary scientist Oded Aharonson for an upcoming documentary entitled "Known Universe.”

 

On April 8, CNN--with Stan Wilson of "The Situation Room"--interviewed seismologist Kate Hutton on the status of earthquake prediction.

 

On April 6, Science News magazine interviewed physicist Kip Thorne for Programme SuperQuark, which will air on RAI Italian TV.

 

The April 6 earthquake in L'Aquila, Italy, and the ensuing discussion about the possibility of predicting such quakes, led to an extensive amount of media coverage this week. Among those quoted were Caltech and USGS seismologists Kate Hutton, Jean-Philippe Avouac, Jean-Paul Ampuero, Egill Hauksson, and Susan Hough. Covering the story were the LA Times, NBC, KTLA, CBS Evening News, and Telemundo.
