Caltech in the News for the week of August 16, 2009
Caltech In the News is our weekly review of Caltech faculty, staff and students who have appeared in the news media this past week. This is but a sampling of our coverage. Please note that some links may expire after some time.
This week's release of US News & World Reports' annual America's Best Colleges list received significant media coverage. Caltech ranked #4 this year, up from #6 last year. Stories appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Associated Press, KCBS-TV Channel 2, KABC-TV Channel 7, and dozens of other media outlets. Undergraduate admissions director Rick Bischoff did interviews with US News, KFWB-AM radio, the Pasadena Star-News and Chinese Daily News.

An August 19 USA Today story looked at recent data from the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) and quoted astrophysicist Marc Kamionkowski. Sky and Telescope, Space.com, UPI wire, and several European news outlets also covered the research.

An August 19 UPI story covered work by biologist Kai Zinn and postdoctoral scholar Bader Al-Anzi that identified the neurons associated with fruit fly obesity. Scientist Live and Science Daily also covered the work.

On August 18, the History Channel ran an episode of The Universe: The Outer Planets, with planetary astronomer Michael Brown. On August 15, a Los Angeles Times story covered work led by Brown showing weather on Saturn's largest moon, Titan. Cosmos Magazine also recently covered the discovery.
