Bower to Lecture on Scientists and Science Education Reform: Myths, Methods & Madness

Jim Bower, associate professor of biology at Caltech, will discuss what's in common among Caltech professors, kindergartners in Pasadena Unified School District, the president of the National Academy of Sciences, and the new National Science Standards in Caltech's next Watson Lecture at 8 p.m. on February 15 in Caltech's Beckman Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Come hear how Caltech and the Pasadena Unified School District are changing the way science is taught throughout California and the nation, and learn the answers to these compelling questions:

o What will science education look like in the next century?

o What is the relationship between Mrs. Bray's third-grade classroom at Field Elementary School and Caltech's Biology 162 class, "Central Nervous System Laboratory"?

o Who's in charge here, and what's going on anyway?
